7 Signs that Summer's Over :-(

1. Came downstairs this morning and thought about putting the heating on
2. It's not an automatic decision to wear shorts for golf
3. The kids are talking about Halloween (the night I'd really like to hide upstairs with all the lights turned off).
4. Never had heated seats before we got the Volvo but mine went on this morning - nice
5. It's almost dark when we leave the playground that the E's play at after school
6. I look at my neglected lawn and promise to make more effort next year and/or install a sprinkler system
7. The squirrels are out frantically harvesting acorns

A new look...

Had a bit of a run in with my now ex web hosting company. So, in a few hours, once the change hits the Internet mikethornton.com will bring you here. You can get to the old webshots galleries via the link on the right hand side.

I wasn't expecting to make this change this evening but it's done now. If you'd like to contribute to this blog or just comment on any of these ramblings let me know and I'll add you to the member list.

The Quest for 200

I have to report that, after a brief, disciplined spell in the summer, my dieting efforts are, once again, non-existant. So, inevitably, as with countless previous diets, it's another Monday (re)start. I pledged to my close friends Rob & Mand in England yesterday that this would be a perfect week, ie I would consume nothing that could be considered bad. Well, so much for that, I have already failed after casually accepting a few chunks of Cadbury's from Jo. Oh well, not the end of the world I suppose.

As a little background to this story, I have been on (but mostly off) a "diet" for longer than I care to remember. The goal was and remains to get down to a modest 200 lbs. I came close in the summer of 2001 when I was at 203. Ironically, after having got myself back in great shape thanks mostly to squash and footy with Pete Wark. I (re)injured my back in a squash match and things have been a little volatile ever since.

Perhaps this blog will serve some useful purpose after all if I have to publish my progress or lack thereof week after week. So, as of yesterday, the number is 224.

Oops

Well, another week has slipped away, quietly..... and I didn't post anything on this damn blog. Must try harder...

A Fresh Start

This blog was created with the intent of posting something, if not everyday, at least on a regular basis. Well, once a week is not regular enough so I'm pressing the reset button....

The ironic thing is that nobody knows that this blog exists so until I get round to installing it as my new home page it is nothing more than a personal journal. I've never kept a journal before but the novelty of this medium might keep my interest for at least a short while.

Anyway, let's kick things off with a bit of fun. Try this fake smile quiz. I got 13/20 but I'm not sure whether that makes me an expert or a dope. Until next time...

Elliotisms

The following came out over French Toast at the diner...

Who is the only person that is smater than Jimmy Neutron? (Answer: Albert Einstein)
Why does ice float?
On the whole planet in total are there more boys or girls?
Did you know that there are Indians in Manhattan destroying buildings...very dangerous down there you know. Really, it's true, Alesandra told me.

----------------
The Indian thing is curious but we think there may have been a discussion at school about what happened on 9/11.
