Dedication

As a footnote to the previous post I made my annual appearance in the Town Golf Tournament at the weekend. In my dreams, I had dedicated my shock win to Monty but as usual, the reality was a mediocre middle of the pack finish. Unlike, Monty I blew myself out of contention on the 17th hole after scrambling to stay in touch with the leaders the whole way round. I should thank my good friend Lenny for enduring the frequent & heavy showers to caddy for me. Despite the rain, it was fun so I hope we can do it again next year.

During my usual post-round introspection it dawned on me why I love golf so much. Simply put, it is the fact that on any given day no matter how badly or well I play I could always do better. A couple of years ago I achieved one of my ambitions of shooting under par (68/71). As I walked off the last green high-fiving with my golf buddies, inside I was kicking myself because it should have been 2 shots better. As such, the challenge that the game presents will always be fresh. More on this theme some other time as it is late and I need to get some sleep.

For the record my goal this season is a bogey free round. I'll report on my success/failure in the "fall".

Monty, Monty, Monty

Continuing my current sporting theme I have to register my disappointment at Monty's demise at the final hole of the US Open. Unlike Mickelson's implosion on the same hole Monty's had more the feel of devine intervention, ie the golfing gods just didn't want him to win. Nevertheless, kudos to guy for being there at the end again and bamboozling the media afterwards with some dry British humour.

He'll be back soon enough though and when he is I'll be urging him on as I have for the last 10 years or so.
